There are many sayings that come from our genuine Hispanic heritage, as in many countries colonized by Spain, but few have enjoyed using them like Cuba has.
The highest peak in Havana is called Pico Turquino and is part of the Sierra Maestra mountain range, in the southwest corner of the island. This is why the summit of Cuban cabaret is called the Cabaret Turquino. It is located on the top floor of one of the tallest buildings in the city: the Hotel Habana Libre Tryp. The views are spectacular.
This establishment is part of the Casa de la Musica in Miramar, on the top floor and accesible by a steep ladder. It’s a great place to grab a drink, listen to live music and dance (as long as the place isn’t packed with people). There are also local DJs who sometimes spin here, and they’re always appreciated by local and international visitors.
I previously looked at the factors contributing to the current state of independent Cuban cinema, which include the growing use of digital technology, as well as the need to skirt the official censorship of the industry.
We've already discussed the difficulty tourists can have getting around in Havana. For this reason I'd like to recommend the Havana Bus Tour, mostly for its great price, though that's not all. It's a transportation system that runs from 9:00 am. to 9:00 pm. and has 3 main routes. The price is $ 5.00 CUC, is good all day, and children under 6 travel for free. The price is also the same for tourists and Cubans.
Beginning at the end of the 17th century, Havana residents got used to hearing two cannon shots that would become part of their daily activities: the first rang out at 4:30 in the morning, and the other at 8:00 at night. The shots served as a reminder of the opening and closing of the bay and the doors to the city walls.
Orchids, plants that only thrive in very special conditions.
If you consider yourself a nature lover, you should head to the Havana Botanical Garden, considered one of the biggest in the world; it is located 25 kilometers south of the city, near the EXPO CUBA fairgrounds. There you can learn about 4,000 plant varieties, and over 145,000 seed varieties, planted over 600 hectares. There are over 500 orchid species, and over 100 cactus species as well.
