A mass celebration of the healthy way of live will be the Marathon Marabena 2011, which will be carried-out as always in the welcoming streets and main roads of the capital on the upcoming Sunday, 20th November. This event always attracts my attention, as there are participating also handicapped runners of both sexes in their corresponding categories along with those who compete as Elite and Masters.

I like to watch the participants run the historical 42km and 195 meters or the less exhausting half marathon and races of 10 and 15km very much. This event praises the brotherly competition between locals and foreigners of all parts, carried-out on a background of relative competitiveness that does not exclude friendship and solidarity between athletes.

Emblematic neighborhoods and Havanan places are witnesses of this marathon, which is an event of real cultural tourism as the race takes place between the Malecón, the National Capitol, the Caste of the Three Kings of Morro and the Fortress of San Carlos de la Cabaña as well as the indispensable Central Park. Altogether they symbolize more than four centuries of history and evolution of the city.

A Cuban poet has summarized very well:

“the racers united
feel their beating chests.
Forward, to the future,
their heartbeats urged to merge.
