I think that we are all very delighted to see the result of the theater collaboration between Cuban and North American dramatists on the stages of the capital; it's good to see that we at least in this artistic field are able to achieve a mutual understanding.

There are already three co-productions between the Cuban initiative of the University of Alabama, lead by professor Seth Panitch, and the National Council of Scenic Arts of Cuba: The Merchant of Venice and A Midsummer Nights Dream, both by the immortal William Shakespeare, and the more recent Beyond Therapy by Christopher Durang, considered one of the most prolific North American dramatists, this being a very popular play in the United States which never loses its effect, as putting its focus on an eternal subject: the anxiety and superficiality of the search for love.

There are playing Cubans as well as North American actors: Alianne Portuondo, Jorge Luis Curbelo, Rayssel Cruz, Vitica Sobrino, Roberto Salomón and Frank Egusquiza, while the North American actors are Jeff Horger, Stephen Brunson and Peyton Conley.

The excellent translation to Spanish of Beyond Therapy has been done by a professor of the University of Alabama, Ignacio Rodeño, and the live music is interpreted but the North American Tom Wolfe, also being associated dean of the Art's and Science Faculty.

It's been possible to stage the mentioned plays both in Havana and at the theater Allen Bales of the University of Alabama, where actors, directors and promotes have been welcomed very successfully. So, the idea of the most universal of all Cubans, José Martí can be confirmed: "There cannot be great art without a beautiful local life", that's exactly what these Cuban and North American actors are performing, delighting a big audience.
