The artistic exchange between the US and Cuba, to the benefit of inhabitants in both nations, maintains a positive rhythm in both directions. So, this coming 30 September, Havana will enjoy a one-of-a-kind concert starring Florida´s Wind Quartet at the San Felipe Neri Oratory.
The concert will be in the same room as where the accredited San Francisco Girls Chorus recently played, directed by master Susan McMane, as a part of the cultural reciprocity between neighboring countries with many common ties.
This northern chamber music group´s repertoire will give those in Havana pieces by distinguished masters of the twentieth century, such as "Three Preludes and Summer Music" by the Americans George Gershwin and Samuel Barber.
The San Felipe Neri Oratory is an ideal setting for this presentation, because not only is it a beautiful concert hall, but it is a room with simply formidable acoustics, which fills the audience with stimulating experiences. About the property, I can tell you that in 1693, it was the first headquarters for the Congregation of the Oratories; in 1762, during the British conquest, it was used to officiate Protestant worship; and after being occupied as religious headquarters and banks, in 2003, Havana´s Historian Office turned it into the San Felipe Neri Oratory, to function as concert hall.
This is a very special opportunity to enjoy these young musicians´ performance, who contribute to strengthening the historical bridge between North Americans and Cubans, not just through their art, but their presence.
