It’s hard for me to conceive the healthy fusion of so many musical talents who perform during the Festivales Internacionales de Jazz Plaza, founded in 1979, which belong to the best events on the world circuit of jazz.
This year’s edition is dedicated to classic music and the list of participants can be called exceptional and extraordinary. Between 15-18th December several spots in Havana will shake to jazz rhythms joined by conferences, classes and audiovisual performances as well as stands where literature and music records will be sold.
The inauguration gala, Thursday 15th December at the Teatro Mella will be carried-out by the National Symphony Orchestra, the choir Entrevoces and guests, for example Jorge Reyes and Roberto Fonseca. On the closing day, Sunday, 18th December, a special performance by the pianist Frank Fernández and the Jazz Band will be staged, directed by the maestro Joaquín Betancourt.
At the Casa de la Cultura de Plaza, from 10pm, will play Alexis Bosch y Proyecto de Jazz Cubano, the group Klimax, Orlando Sánchez (Cubajazz), the always dynamic Bellita and Jazztumbatá, Emilio Morales, Alfred Thompson, the emblematic Bobby Carcasés, as well as the ensemble Habana D' Primera.
At the Sala Covarrubias del Teatro Nacional, from 7pm will perform Troy University Jazz Ensemble EE.UU., the formation Habana Sax, the group Mezcla, Jesús Fuentes and Santo Tomás Conection, Oscar Valdés and Diákara, Ruy and Harold López-Nussa, César López and Habana Ensemble, as well as the wonderful pianist Rolando Luna and the saxophonist Javier Salva, to only mention a few of the scheduled talents.
An excellent event to enjoy the best of jazz, here on the Greater Antilles, which for sure is the most transcendental region of the continent.
