Promotional picture of the record "La Maquinaria"
Juan Formell y sus Van Van look back on 42 years of successfully playing popular music. Known under the nickname "el tren de la música cubana" ("train of Cuban music"), after their last record I'm sure that many started referring to them with a new nickname: La Maquinaria, song title on their recent record.
Juan Formell and his son Samuel have known how to maintain an artistic rigor which is not very common in the prolific and changing world of Cuban music; they are champions of the permanent renovation within their style and extremely careful with their lyrics, chorus and and on stage performance, defended and preserved from vulgarity, always wisely witnessing our daily life.
I think these have been the decisive factors of their long career, in Cuba as well as internationally. Their performances around the world attract many fans who are delighted with these permanent renovators of popular Cuban music; their songs always rank among the most played hits on radio and on TV.
The band is preparing to offer the audience two concerts where they will present their most recent production, La Maquinaria, a record one can dance to with various sounds and unforgettable hits, like "Recíbeme" and "Eso que anda".
The first one of these concerts will take place on the 8th December at the Karl Marx theater with a capacity of 5,000 people and on the 10th they will play at the Casa de la Música Habana, in the Galiano street.
If you join one of these most probably fabulous concerts, you will be able to witness first-hand that La Maquinaria by Van Van doesn't stop and as a song says: "…the crankshaft is straightened and keeps going", moving dancers from all over the world, especially the ones who like the taste of this Caribbean island.
