The guys from the popular group Kola Loka are in charge of animating the participants of an excellent dance event that will take place at the Ambassador's Hall of the Hotel Habana Libre, a celebration to fully enjoy this New Year's Eve.
If you don't know the group, allow me to introduce it to you. It seems as if they have had a premonition when they founded and baptized the group in 2001, as since then they are "stuck" to popularity, just like the famous glue whose name they chose to give their band (Kola Loka is a popular glue in Cuba). The group was founded more than 900km from Santiago, in Santiago de Cuba, the second largest city of the country, which got to know new West Indian rhythms a long time ago, like Reggae, Ragamuffin, Dembow, Rap and also Reggaetón.
The outstanding success of the group goes back to their esthetics and their profile,; Reggaeton might be also described as "Cubatón", harmonizing Caribbean vibes with Cuban sounds which lead to many contagious songs for everybody. Their live shows are real spectacles, their staging comes with many elements of the vernacular Cuban theater, always very close to the audience and once very popular, besides timbres that remind of an oriental organ.
They have shared the stage with artists and groups like Osmany García, Gente de Zona, Habana D´ Primera, Bamboleo y la Charanga Habanera; the most popular songs (and video clips) of Kola Loka are No me da mi gana americana, El Calentico y La Estafa del Babalao.
If you are a spending New Year's Eve in Havana as a tourist, I suggest you to keep in mind this high-end dance event, which will take place at the Salón de Embajadores (Ambassador's Hall) of the Hotel Habana Libre, where also the reggaeton musicians El Chacal and Yakarte will play.
