A great place in Havana for a good coffee: Bar Café Acera del Louvre. Photo by L.Calvo
On the corner of one of the avenues circling around Havana´s Central Park, there is a bar called Bar Café Acera del Louvre, a place where you can drink or enjoy an aromatic coffee surrounded by history.
Its name came from its ancestor, the Gran Café El Louvre, which later became part of the Hotel Inglaterra´s anthology.
To its right is Havana´s Grand Theater, and on the other side of the same block, the always majestic, recently restored Hotel Telégrafo. During the nineteenth century, a group of young people gathered in this area, conspirators who supported the Cuban independence from the Spanish throne. Many of them, with a bronze plaque placed in the area as evidence, fought for their libertarian principles until death. They are known to us as the "Boys of Steel."
Bar Café Acera del Louvre´s surroundings are neoclassical, predominated by tall windows, evocative stained glass windows, colored mosaics decorating everything to the tables, discrete, ornamental vegetation and delicately shaped roofs.
In the beginning of the twentieth century, Bar Café Acera del Louvre remained a venue of convergence, with a less "patriotic" task, closely linked to the ins and outs of politics during that time, hence the pain and "casts of honor," for skirted issues or lack of civility.
As Havana´s Central Park is the exchange point for all Havana Bus Tour routes, the Bar Café Acera del Louvre is very frequented by tourists looking to pause and refresh with some tonic liquid while waiting for their departure.
At this bar, you can combine legendary context with a suggestive atmosphere and have a pleasant visit.
