First and 14´s Snack Bar

First and 14´s Snack Bar

It´s always euphemistically said that Cuba enjoys an eternal summer, a claim in which here, has basically become a slogan. And so true it is, that in this month of May (spring in many parts of the world), thermometers register temperatures typical to a scorching summer.

Because of this, First and 14´s Snack Bar becomes quite the lively center, especially during this months of intense heat. This stand (and it´s auxiliary facilities) is located less than 30 meters from the coastline—and notice that I did not say beach—specifically in an area where many swimmers converge, mainly Cubans, although there are also always some tourists and foreign residents.

It´s a true blessing to be able to combat the rigorous heat with some shade, a soda or a cold beer, eating pizza, a sandwich, fries, or anything that can revive our bodies after a swim or a mild heatstroke.

I always see this snack bar as a type of appealing oasis, a stop in which those of us who visit often must be thankful for, for the variety of products, the standard prices (all with Cuban Convertible Pesos, CUC), the quality of service, which not superior but sufficient, and it´s beach atmosphere, generally calm, with families and good vehicle security.

For example, as it´s not a closed site, smokers are content there, and the ocean is so close that if you have some drinks and want to lessen your buzz a bit, you can with a "chapuzón," as we always say here, a dip in the ocean.

First and 14´s Snack Bar is open until midnight, every day of the week, 365 days a year (even when the isolated cold fronts hit), unless a severe meteorological phenomenon affects the western region. Clients also come at night—when in theory, there are no swimmers—especially those leaving from functions at the nearby Karl Marx Theater, who go to consume something and enjoy the fresh night breeze.
