Fried rice at la Torre de Marfil

Fried rice at la Torre de Marfil

In Havana, this beautiful and multicultural city, we have the good fortune of telling you about Chinatown, in which thanks to its inhabitants of mostly decedents and early emigrants, continues to have a large cultural and culinary presence.

But I don´t want to refer directly to this place, rather the culture and traditions that have crossed the edges of the neighborhood´s boundaries, reaching into more than one kitchen in this country. In the old city, better, Old Havana, there is a beautiful, authentically decorated colonial building, a restaurant that lives up to its presence, La Torre de Marfil, The Ivory Tower.

Elegant and traditional, an intimate place to eat, the ambiance consists of shades of red and black and traditional Chinese motifs: porcelain Buddha statues, paper screens and Chinese calligraphy wall decorations. In the back, there is a small pagoda, which is used as a private dining room.

They offer delicious Cantonese food, such as Chou Mein pork and Tip Pan chicken, and there´s an abundance of Chow Mien. Other available dishes include Chop Suey, fried rice, vegetables and seafood. To accompany your food, there are local and imported beers, the house wine, mineral water, sodas and other beverages.

More than a quarter of a century old, this place rescues Cantonese and Chinese culinary traditions while giving them an international taste—including using Creole ingredients—in order to create a wide range of combinations, pleasing all tastes.

Along with this delicious and varied menu, its strategic location in the middle of the colonial city, and knowing that we are tasting unique, healthy dishes, also adds to the affable and engaging details about this place. Really, it would be difficult to resist a visit to this restaurant.
