
Tropicana, Cuba
One of the most famous nightclubs, known by those living on the island as well as those far removed from the shores of Cuba is of course the Tropicana. Launched in 1939 at Villa Mina, a six-acre suburban estate with lush tropical gardens in Havana’s Marianao neighborhood, The Tropicana had a major impact in spreading Cuban cultura internationally. It reigned as one of the most famous clubs in the world and was frequented not only by top international politicians but also some of the most important players in music and stage of the day.
Today the Tropicana continues to operate attracting tourists to its elaborate floorshows.
Shows take place at 9pm Tuesdays through Sunday in the open air "Salon Bajo Las Estrellas" with tickets starting at about $65 USD.
This is an excellent event space to see the many variations of music, especially the best of Jazz. You will be immersed in not only the images of its glorious past, but also hear the improvisational sound of some of the countries top musicians in a jam sesión such as “la música de los músicos.”
In a cozy basement similar in style to many in New York City, but located in a Havana street, the Rampa, the Zorra, and the Cuervo will open the doors for you to enjoy the profound depths of latin Jazz. Above all, Cuban Jazz, with the rythm and harmony all its own, yet distinct in its own right blending the afro-cuban with the styles of latin jazz.

Directions: From Vedado, just drive downtown through 23rd street, after Almendares river it changes the name to 42 st, follow it for about 10 minutes and U'll see the huge sign "TROPICANA"
Tickets: can be ordered by phone from 10am – 6pm or buy them at the ticket booth at 8:30 pm (call ahead of time to check availability) reservations can be made through any travel agency desk located in most of the hotels.
