For over 150 years, the Morro lighthouse has been a sure guide for maritime navigation in the area. It has also become a symbol of the city over the years- there is no tourist guide to Havana that doesn’t bear an image of it. History tells us that it was one of the main defense systems in Havana in the past; in the middle of the 16th century it had become a valuable point of observation, and beginning in 1563 a tower was built for the ships in transit.

Orchids, plants that only thrive in very special conditions.

If you consider yourself a nature lover, you should head to the Havana Botanical Garden, considered one of the biggest in the world; it is located 25 kilometers south of the city, near the EXPO CUBA fairgrounds. There you can learn about 4,000 plant varieties, and over 145,000 seed varieties, planted over 600 hectares. There are over 500 orchid species, and over 100 cactus species as well.

The Havana Planetarium has just opened its doors, and it’s an attractive cultural center for the spread of knowledge of astronomy, the new field of exobiology, mathematics and physics. The planetarium is housed in a former theater, and has four stories: first is the Hall of the Universe, the Space Theater, the Cosmic Passage and the Gallery of the Scales.

San Jose Cultural Center (old warehouses).

Tourists to Havana love the work of Cuban artisans as gifts for family and friends back home. Recently, artisans sold their wares near the Malecon, in Old Havana, in conditions that were far from ideal.

But now they can sell their work at the newly opened Cultural Center "Old Warehouses San Jose", where visitors can enjoy a spectacular view of the Bay of Havana.

I am not the only one who thinks that Havana without the Capitol is simply not Havana. It is the hub of our city, its memory and unity. This is not only for its architectural uniqueness, but also for the history contained within its walls. Some numbers: it covers a space of 12,000 meters, 10,839 of which are the roof.

The gardens are 26,500 square meters. The dome is the sixth tallest in the world, and the lantern inside is 94 meters high, was only surpassed by the one at St. Peter's in Rome at the time of its construction.
