A scene from the play Derrota
This Havana stage group remains committed to starkly showing the revealing microworlds of whichever society.
The piece, Derrota (Defeat), by Spanish playwright Raúl Dans, focuses on the stories of various people who meet in a park due to a common denominator: destiny, in which some avoid and others peruse.
The dramatic story exposes the viewer to complex situations related to human reflexions and passions, as well as bringing to light the corrosive world of drugs, our lost values, which we should still have, and the destruction of loves that are built upon flimsy and unhealthy situations.
The Argos Theater stage production has an additional merit: It is the first work directed by two of Carlos Celdrán´s disciples, whom will be acting as well, which sets new standards for this group. Also, this group has had a permanent bank of actors and students in full training since it´s forming in 1996.
So, since the premier of this work, 9 March, Edith Obregón and Yenadro Tamayo have been demonstrating that they have the conduct, mastery and the dreams necessary to take over contemporary theater with strength and realism.
Due to public success, Derrota will remain in production at their own theater, Argos Theater, until 31 July. The play starts every Friday and Saturday at 8:30 p.m., Sundays at 5:00 p.m.
