I invite you to experience the joy of seeing a truly great Cuban actor live, known for his humorous roles, Osvaldo Doimeadios. The Teatro El Publico troupe presents the play "Josefina la Viajera" by Abilio Estevez", written in 2006, starring Doimeadios.
The play is about the failure of a dream, of the kind Cubans have had since 1898, or better yet, since 1902, when Republican power began on the island, when many of us became true migrants on the paths of those ideals.
Within that failure there is also agony and anguish, felt by many Cubans. The actors share with the audience that mask worn by many faces, as Josefina becomes a familiar symbol, as she travels a fantastical road and tries to break down doors. The well-known critic Norge Espinosa wrote that, "Josefina la Viajera is an intimate map, but seditious too, of the truths that we began to discuss about Cuba in the 90's.
The director Carlos Diaz triumphs again, as he once again uses efficient theatricality and powerfully suggestive theater. The character of Josefina embodies the soul of the nation, of our reality and history. This play can be considered a relevant event for Cuban theater and culture.
