Teatro D´Dos

Teatro D´Dos

This theater company has been around since the 80's, and ever since has been offering a unique perspective to the Havana theater scene. They have sought to present the great figures of Latin American theater, such as Garcia Lorca, Cesar Vallejo, Pablo Neruda, Exilia Saldana, and Dulce María Loynaz. Garcia Lorca, known for his strong female characters, is still often performed by the company.

Teatro D'Dos has also performed the dialogue and narration of "La Noche", a book by Exilia Saldana, a dreamy and evocative text.

Stylistically, the company focuses on the actor and his role in telling the story; for this reason, the sets are typically stark and there are no soundtracks whatsoever. The actors therefore must undergo rigorous psycho-physical training to become the nexus of the theatrical performance.

They adopt an expressive realist style, tied closely to the play's contact, as a means of communication with the audience, especially when performing plays by contemporary Cuban playwrights. I'm speaking of Abelardo Estorino ("La Casa Vieja"), Ricardo Munoz ("Las Rosas de Maria Fonseca") and Jose Triana ("La Noche de los Asesinos"), all of whom write about the relationship between parents and their children and grandchildren, in both the social and domestic realms.

Among the many awards that Teatro D'Dos has won are the Premio Villanueva in 1997, an award from the Camagüey National Festival in 1998, and the Small Format National Theater Festival of Santa Clara, as well as individual acting awards for Deisy Sanchez and Jorge Fernandez.

The goal of Teatro D'Dos is to achieve harmonic and dialectical communication between performer and audience.
