This bar, recently opened in Playa, seeks to be a hotspot for live music in Havana. So far, they've been successful.
Tania Pantoja, whom I've written about before, now performs every Friday, from 7-12PM, at the Casa Verano Palco; the show is very suggestively titled LAS TARDES INFIELES (UNFAITHFUL EVENINGS). The cover charge is also very accessible: $ 100.00 Cuban pesos (CUP).
Every Saturday, also from 7-12PM, you can see the group Jaleo and DJ Leo. There are two great options here for the public: the first 20 women inside get in free, and the cover is only $ 50.00 Cuban pesos (CUP).
These nights at the Casa Verano Palco always have a lot of support from the Cuban public, who go to see great live music, for the cheap cover charge, the good vibe at the club, and the friendly service. lastly, there is a good variety of liquor to enjoy while listening to the music.
Address: Calle 18 between 41 and 43, Miramar, Playa.
Slowly but surely, Tania Pantoja has been making her way up the ranks of Cuban singers. Some are already calling her La Diva, and others call her the Pantoja of Cuba, in reference to the famous Spanish Singer Isabel Pantoja.
Though she leads the Bamboleo Orchestra, for the last few years she has been working on a solo career. She has what’s known as “Angel”- a one word summary of star power.
The biggest theater in Havana, previously known as the Blanquita, now the Karl Marx, has a small performance space called Sala Atril.
But it is not a space used for theater performances, but rather for the most talented up and coming Cuban musicians, soloists and groups alike.
If you like seeing good, live music while enjoying great food, head on over to El Cortijo, part of the Hotel Vedado, on Calle 25, on the corner of O street, in Vedado.
Appetizers range from shrimp cocktail to soups and salads. Main dishes include grilled pork strips, chicken and garlic lobster. El Cortijo also has pizza and pasta.
