There are many new voices to be heard from the new Cuban music scene; one of which belongs to Lynn Milanés. She is the daughter of one of the greatest proponents of the nueva trova (new prose), Pablo Milanés, This singer has set her self apart by offering us profound lyrics combined with great music; perfect for those who enjoy profound and intelligent writing.
She has interpreted works such as Te quiero bien y Como un bolero, Her repertoire includes works of contemporary authors like Raúl Torres and Athanai, versions of Brazilian songs, and anthologies that carry the marks of illustrious figures of the trova tradicional cubana (traditional cuban prose).
Currently she is preparing a record which serves as a tribute to the emblematic composer - who is referred to as the "Pharaoh of Cuba" by García Lorca — Sindo Garay, who bequeathed us with songs that genuinely represent our musical past, such as Perla marina y Tardes grises.
This beautiful woman has performed, very successfully, at the Café Jade, located in the capital's China Town, where every Thursday at 10 p.m., she demonstrates her charm, naturalness, and empathy to a public that has experienced one of the best performances offered by our nocturnal centers. I remember seeing everyone spending time with their friends, family, and colleagues, or just simply there on their own to listen to music for the soul and to get a taste of a happy night in Havana.
