This versatile singer has been enjoyed and appreciated by his audience for 40 years, something that is quickly said but hard to achieve.
His successful professional path started with his father’s formation, later passing through the orchestras “Jóvenes del Feeling” and “Ritmo Oriental”, achieving the peak of his popularity during his stay in the so called train of Cuban music: The “Van Van” where he used to be one of the most charismatic voices.
The artistic success of this interpreter is based on a permanent and empathic search with the audience and on the fact that he cannot easily be categorized, interpreting just as skillfully other genres appreciated by the Cuban dancers, such as the guaracha, the son and especially boleros and ballads.
Exactly out of this diverse eagerness produces itself since 2002 the project “Nueva Justicia” (“New Justice”) which is managed by Pedrito Calvo and seeks to get to the limits and beyond as well as to include other autochthon rhythms so that “the people hum and dance”, as Calvo states.
Pedrito Calvo has participated in other famous artistic projects, such as "Afrocuban all Stars" and "Buenavista Social Club", crucial was his intervention at the Grammy Award given to phonogram "Juan Formell y Los Van Van”. He has also performed very successfully in front of a demanding audience in the United States, France, Spain, Mexico, Chile, Japan and as a guest with other unique Cuban groups such as “NG La Banda" and "Manolito Simonet y su Trabuco".
This very popular musician has formed the ensemble “Nueva Justicia” with exceptional instrumentalists and young fellows “beyond the normal”, especially when it comes to seduce the dancers.
An ideal voice due to its quality and sincerity, an scenic as well as well protected and close image, a formation which belongs to the best and most authentic ones of the Cuban musical horizon; all this and much more could be said about "Pedrito Calvo y la Nueva Justicia" who can be listed as an important pillar of the national melodic work.
