Simply Sory
Not even 30 and already with a treasured ten years as an artist. Although, if we consider her participation in a television music competition at only three years old, her career is much longer.
This beautiful woman and singer professionally broke into the Cuban music scene after completing her studies in 2001. Since then, she´s held a prominent place, for her personal style, artistic rigor and especially her undeniable talent. These qualities, among others, have permitted her to take over the national and foreign public.
Sory is a sensible lady, who on a theater stage or in a nightclub, is always showing that she feels what she does, what she expresses, and is able to effectively convey it to the public with a flexible voice, clearly harmonious, with her balanced and mature stage presence. In addition to being sensitive, she´s very brave, and has decided to embark on a resolutely more classical music path, regardless of the popular tendencies toward pop and urban music. Moreover, Sory especially leans toward Cuban song, and works with current sounds mixed with elements from our trova, in a boleristic style, with jazz perfomances and Brazilian harmonies, but always with a Cuban identity.
Her album, "Déjame ser," (Let me be) is a good example of this, so I was not surprised when it was nominated for the Singer category in the recent 2010 Cubadisco. The disc digitizes parts of Cuban classics in this genre, and lets us read her temperament. One critic defined it in a nutshell: "Sory´s voice is schooled: tune, taste and natural talent."
So if you don't believe me, the next time you see that Sory´s playing, go see for yourself…I´m sure you´ll see me there.
