A few months ago, I dared to say that the Cuban electronic music movement is in the process of expansion, organization, recognition and generalization.
Now, to my delight, I see that the dance functions in the "Art at La Tropical" event include electroacoustic Djs every Thursday in August at the La Tropical's Rosado Benny Moré Room, one of our urban popular culture's most momentous spaces.
Those who come here will see the Djs in action, while enjoying this tasteful music's process of creativity and technicality, which integrates diverse genres such as urban rap, reggae, pop, rock, salsa, timba and cumbia among others, as well as parts from the underground cultures (gothic, obscure rock, industrial rock, etc.) fusing elements of house, deep house and techno, resulting in innovative video and sound, total packages, to which more and more young people prefer to dance every day.
Tomorrow, Thursday, 11 August, 2011, starting at 8 p.m., Djs Thellus, Ra, Obi y Dark will be playing. And on the following Thursdays, Djs Roberto Paz, IA, Wichy d’Vedado, Diemen Duff, Wolf, D’Vazz Brothers, Leonard Rielo, Xander Black, Richi Pellicer and Dennis Ever, among other creators who have demonstrated quality.
As extra good news —in terms of electroacoustic dance— I should also mention that this month, these young people have shows in other parts of Havana, such as Yara, 23 and 12, Riviera, and the Maxim Rock room.
I think Havana Djs deserve applause for their perseverance and determination, their strategy; they have the support of official institutions, state companies and even young professional organizations, which says a lot for these musical creators. I never thought I would read the following statement by a top cultural director (from the state of course): "These performances constitute a blessing for the La Tropical's Rosado Room, which can grow to its potential even more now, while favoring Cuban culture and representing a fun option that important for young people." Incredible, but true.
