Comedians at Cocodrilo Club
Humor is very important for Cubans (some would say too important); we look for a funny side to everything, even the most serious subjects. And when it comes to laughing, we even know how to laugh at ourselves...
For many, the “Cocodrilo” Comedy Club is a palace of comedy here in the Cuban capital, though there are others that claim this title. If you speak Spanish, you can enjoy some good Cuban comedians, while enjoying a drink menu of beer, rum, whiskey, vodka, gin and more. It opens every night from 10:00 PM to 3:00 AM. The comedians close their sets at 1:00 AM, after which some canned music is played.
The two comedians currently lighting up the stage at “Cocodrilo” are Ramon Mustelier and Jorge Diaz, who are truly entertaining. The club is located on 3rd St. on the corner of 19th, in El Vedado, with a 5 CUC (Convertible Cuban Peso) cover charge.
Admission is not allowed for those under 18, or those wearing shorts or t-shirts; smoking, video recording devices, and outside food and drink are also not allowed. You may think this is a joke, but these are all house rules, strictly followed.
I’ll also warn you that many of these comedians base their acts on making fun of the economic and social reality in Cuba, which is a big draw of Cubans going to see the shows (of course, none of this is reflected in Cuban mass media).
If you’d like to enjoy some authentic Cuban humor while enjoying drinks and dancing alongside Havanans, I recommend “Cocodrilo”.
