Coffee cup.
I've been asked to write about places frequented by every day Cubans, so I'll review a bar called La Arcada, also called the Café of the Artists.
It is located in the building that houses the main TV stations in Cuba, as well as national radio stations, so the bar has historically been frequented by technicians, actors and musicians who work in the building..as well as their fans who hope to meet them.
They all meet here to enjoy a coffee or other hot beverage to sustain them during long days of recording, as well as to take a break from the equipment and microphones. People here also enjoy shots of rum, beer, and other alcoholic drinks to, eh, improve their professional performance. They only need to go a hop, skip and a jump from work to the nearest bar- La Arcada.
Once the work day is done, some TV and radio professionals head home..and others head to La Arcada to enjoy a nice cold drink (or several), in order to go home feeling somewhat "refreshed".
These people prefer to drink here, among their work colleagues, without necessarily being recognized by fans.
If you'd like to see some of these personalities in the flesh, come to La Arcada, and sit inside, where there's air conditioning, or on the terrace, and enjoy a drink with some talented individuals.
Address: Calle M between 21st and 23rd, El Vedado, Havana.
