
Bar El Floridita, the birthplace of the Daquiri
Without a doubt one of the most elegant and exclusive restaurants in Havana is El Floridita. The most famous client of this establishment that dates back to its founding in 1817 was of course Ernest Hemingway. The famous drink made famous by and for Mr. Hemingway was of course the Daquiri, created then and now by the experienced barmen of El Floridita.

In 1992 Floridita was awarded the Best of the Best Five Star Diamond Award as the King of the Daiquiri as well as for the delicious seafood by the Culinary Academy. Among its most famous dishes is the Papa & Mary which combines meat and seafood enjoyed by Mr. Hemingway (papa) and his wife Mary. Along with steak and lobster in spectacular sauces, there is also the special Shrimp Cocktail of the Gulf “el estilo Hemingway” which is seasoned simply with lemon juice, salt and pepper.
Other dishes to consider during your visit include the highly prized Kayuka Mixta, Lobster enchilada, cold chef’s soup, and the Colonial soup. Of courst the cockail menue distinguishes the Floridita with famous concoctions such as the “Papa Hemingway”, the Floridita daquiri,, the “Mulata”, “Rebelde” , the classic Mojito ore ven the traditional Cuba Libre.
