Restaurant "Don Cangrejo". You can eat just a few feet from the sea.
We Cubans (most of us anyway) love seafood: fish and shellfish have always been an essential part of our island diet, and also our culture.
For this reason I’m recommending a Havana restaurant that specializes in seafood: Don Cangrejo. There are several reasons for recommending the place.
First, although there are countless seafood restaurants in the city, not all of their chefs have the skill of the chefs at Don Cangrejo. Second, you can eat just a few feet from the blue waters of the Caribbean Sea here, and enjoy that fresh sea salt air.
The prices are also decent: the most expensive item on the menu, the Don Cangrejo Seafood Platter, is only 24 CUC, and a veritable gastronomic feast.
The restaurant also has a good wine list, especially whites and rosés, which pair beautifully with the seafood, as well as with all of the “tools” necessary to pry open mussels and crabs and such.
I have two suggestions for the menu here: Fish in White Sauce (balsamic vinegar, olive oil, onions and olives), and the famous Don Cangrejo Paella (with shrimp, crab, fish, lobster and other delicious seafood). The most representative dish is the Crab Claws.
The restaurant has one attraction that gets pretty popular in the summer: a swimming pool with a depth of 4.5 feet, where you can swim if you pay a cover charg, which also allows you the use of chaise lounges. Here you can enjoy alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, as well as snacks. On weekend nights, young comedians and popular musical acts perform, which is very popular with younger Cubans.
The restaurant is open from 12-12, and is located on 1ra Avenida, between 16th and 18th streets, in Miramar.
